The Odisha State Open University was found in 2015 by the act of Odisha state legislature. The University is popularly-known for its distance learning programs and, is located in the Sambalpur district of Odisha. The University offers various courses ranging from teacher education, Computer science, Engineering, Business & Management, paramedical, agriculture, and foreign language courses. The fee to be charged for each of these courses is made reasonable and affordable for everyone.Currently, the Vice-chancellor of the University is Dr. Srikant Mohapatra. The Vice-chancellor has also been awarded the IGNOU gold medal in 2004 for providing the best services to the students by late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
