The National Institute of Technology Delhi (NIT Delhi or NITD) is a premier public technical university located in Delhi, India. Established in 2010, it is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology recognized as Institutes of National Importance by the Government of India. In 2024, NIT Delhi was ranked 45th among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
Situated approximately 25 km from Delhi city on National Highway 1, NIT Delhi's permanent campus spans over 51 acres in Narela, Delhi. The first phase of the campus was completed recently, and the institute now operates from this permanent location.
NIT Delhi offers a range of engineering programs across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Undergraduate Programs (B.Tech): Four-year degrees in disciplines such as Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and, since 2023, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science Engineering. Each program admits 60 students annually. Postgraduate Programs (M.Tech): Two-year master's degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering (Analytics). Doctoral Programs (Ph.D): Research opportunities in fields like Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering.
Undergraduate admissions are conducted through the Joint Entrance Examination (Main), with seat allocation managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority. Half of the seats are reserved for students from Delhi and Chandigarh under the Home State category, while the remaining seats are open to candidates from other states. For foreign nationals, admissions are facilitated by the Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA) scheme, based on SAT scores.
The institute is actively engaged in both theoretical and experimental research, focusing on areas such as VLSI and embedded systems, power electronics and drives, advanced magnetohydrodynamics, and mathematical modeling of fluid dynamics.
NIT Delhi boasts a vibrant campus life with various student organizations and clubs, including The Cultural Club, UPVISION - Technical Club, AlphaZ - The Literature Society, Altius - The Sports Club, Clairvoyance - The Photography Club, Arts Club, Social Reformation Cell (SRC) and Google Developers Student Club (GDSC).
The institute hosts major annual events such as Sentience, a techno-cultural fest, and Zeal, a sports fest promoting sportsmanship among students.
