Established in 1966 by the Delhi Music Society, the Delhi School of Music (DSM) is a premier institution dedicated to the teaching of Western classical music in New Delhi. As a non-profit organization, it stands as one of the few institutions of its kind in northern India, catering to approximately 1,400 students annually.
DSM offers instruction in a variety of musical disciplines, including Instrumental Training: Piano, guitar, violin, cello, clarinet, flute, recorder, saxophone, keyboard, and drums; Vocal Training: Focused on Western classical singing techniques; and Dance Instruction: Classes in various dance forms complementing musical education. The school emphasizes not only individual performance but also ensemble playing, aural development, and musical appreciation.
DSM serves as a center for examinations conducted by prestigious international boards: Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), England and Trinity College of Music, London. These affiliations allow students to obtain globally recognized certifications, enhancing their musical credentials.
To enrich the educational experience, DSM organizes workshops, conducted by visiting artists and seasoned musicians, providing interactive learning opportunities. And Student concerts, regularly scheduled performances that help students develop their stage presence and performance skills. These activities foster a holistic learning environment, encouraging practical application of skills.
Under the aegis of the Delhi Music Society, DSM aims to promote and encourage music and dance education. Arrange concerts and recitals by both visiting and local artists. And collaborate with cultural organizations to enhance the appreciation and understanding of Western classical music. The institution is governed by an Executive Committee of fourteen elected members, all of whom are voluntary workers dedicated to the love of music.
