Bhatkhande Music Institute, now known as Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, was established in 1926 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, by the eminent musicologist Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande. The university is situated on a 2.0784-acre urban campus in the culturally rich area of Kaiserbagh. Recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), it was upgraded to a state university in 2022. The university offers a diverse range of programs including Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA), Master of Performing Arts (MPA), Ph.D., and various diploma and certificate courses, all focusing on Indian classical music, dance, and musicology. It has been accredited with a Grade 'A' by NAAC and ranks in the 101–150 band in the NIRF 2023 rankings. Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls, with a total capacity of 75 students. The average fee for a 3-year BPA program is approximately ?35,700, while the 2-year MPA program costs around ?31,600. A unique achievement of the university is its specialized courses in Dhrupad Dhamar, Thumri Dadra, and Sugam Sangeet, preserving and promoting traditional Indian music forms.
