Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), established in 2009 is an autonomous institute under the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC), operating within the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Located in the NCR Biotech Science Cluster in Faridabad, Haryana, THSTI was envisioned by Dr. M. K. Bhan, former Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology, to accelerate the translation of laboratory research into viable market applications.
THSTI fosters a dynamic and collaborative research environment, bringing together diverse scientific minds - including physicians, biologists, chemists, and mathematicians - to transform innovative concepts into tangible healthcare products. The institute operates a network of specialized research centers addressing various healthcare areas, including Centre for Maternal and Child Health, Centre for Virus Research, Therapeutics, and Vaccines, Centre for Tuberculosis Research, Centre for Microbial Research, Centre for Immunobiology and Immunotherapy, Computational and Mathematical Biology Centre, Centre for Bio-design and Diagnostics, Centre for Drug Discovery, and Clinical Development Services Agency.
Augmenting these centers are state-of-the-art facilities such as the Bioassay Laboratory, Biorepository, Biosafety Level-3 Lab, Data Management Centre, Immunology Core Laboratory, Multi-OMICS Facility, Experimental Animal Facility, Vaccine Design and Development Facility, and the School of Innovation in Biodesign. These resources significantly bolster the research programs of THSTI and serve as valuable assets to the National Capital Region Biotech Science Cluster, as well as other academic and industrial partners.
Committed to capacity building in the healthcare research sector, THSTI offers educational programs such as the Master of Science in Clinical Research and Ph.D. programs. The institute has contributed over 700 scientific publications in reputed journals and has filed more than 100 patent applications both in India and internationally.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Prof. Ganesan Karthikeyan, THSTI continues to advance its mission of translating scientific research into practical healthcare solutions, thereby enhancing public health outcomes on both national and global scales.
