Established in 2010, the South Asian University (SAU) is an international institution collaboratively founded by the eight member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC): Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. SAU commenced its academic journey at a temporary campus in Akbar Bhawan, New Delhi, and since February 2023, it has been operating from its permanent campus in Maidan Garhi, South Delhi, adjacent to the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
SAU offers a range of postgraduate and doctoral programs across various disciplines, including Economics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Sociology, International Relations and Law. These programs are designed to foster regional integration and development by attracting students from all SAARC member countries. Degrees awarded by SAU are recognized across all eight member nations, facilitating academic and professional mobility within the region.
The 100-acre Maidan Garhi campus provides a conducive environment for learning and research, featuring state-of-the-art facilities, modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and comprehensive libraries. The campus is designed to support a vibrant academic community and promote cross-cultural interactions among students and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
