Established in 2013, Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women (BPSGMCW) is a pioneering institution dedicated exclusively to women's medical education in India. Located in Khanpur Kalan, Sonepat district, Haryana, it holds the distinction of being the first women's government medical college established in independent India, following the inception of Lady Hardinge Medical College in 1914.
The foundation stone of BPSGMCW was laid on March 1, 2009, by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, the then Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). The institution was developed at a cost of approximately ₹700 crores and spans 88 acres. It operates under the affiliation of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, and is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
BPSGMCW offers a comprehensive range of medical courses, including the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and various postgraduate programs such as Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) in disciplines like Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Community Medicine. Admission to these programs is based on performance in national entrance examinations like NEET-UG for MBBS and NEET-PG for postgraduate courses.
The associated teaching hospital began operations in 2011 with 100 beds and has since expanded to a 450-bed facility, staffed by over 200 doctors. The hospital features state-of-the-art intensive care units, modular operation theaters, and advanced labor rooms, providing quality healthcare services to the surrounding rural population.
BPSGMCW is equipped with modern infrastructure, including air-conditioned facilities, well-equipped laboratories, a central library with an extensive collection of medical literature, and hostel accommodations designed to ensure a conducive learning environment for female medical students.
Strategically situated between the Grand Trunk Road and National Highway 71(A), the college is accessible from major cities, being approximately 32 kilometers from Sonipat Railway Junction and about 115 kilometers from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
